Tribute to David Oliver
( 1972 -
The news of David’s death in December 2012 came as a great shock to all who knew and loved him. David and I shared an interest in designing our websites, freely exchanging images, recordings and information and linking David’s and Richard’s. He encouraged and gave permission for me to use his website to promote his work. In this tribute, as well as using my own photographs and recordings, I have copied some of David’s pictures, biography and notes about Richard’s work which I hope will help to keep his memory and his exceptional gift alive to all who visit this site and hear his playing. It was as though David and his flute were one. Sue Thomason Jones

Working with David Oliver was a privilege. He was a wonderfully consummate musician and the world of British instrumentalists is so much the poorer with his passing. In terms of flute playing, his technique and ability were breathtaking and his understanding of the style and meaning of what he was playing was flawless. I feel that I have lost one of the best collaborators and friends of my whole career and I am saddened by his absence. Richard Roderick Jones Richard Roderick Jones
